The origins of the word "shirt" date back to ancient Rome in the 3rd century AD when this garment already had enormous importance back then but was worn as an intimate garment and was called "Kamasos" from the Greek.
It had a square shape, was sleeveless and was made with different types of fabric such as cotton, linen, silk.
First in the second renaissance and later in the nineteenth century through different transformations the shirt will come to be an independent and external garment that will have to be worn and matched with trousers and jackets, thus stripping of the old role of underwear.
