BOILED WOOL FABRIC

  • Since the cooked wool is not the result of weaving one or more threads of wool, but is obtained by felting a piece of cloth, we must define it as "fabric".
The process to which it is subjected is called "fulling" or through insertion in the "follone" (special machinery) is compressed and soaked with a soapy solution the result is a fabric that shrinks by about 30% and is more compact, slightly water repellent and more resistant, retains and maintains heat as it is hygroscopic.
Very widespread in the Alpine areas between Austria and Alto Adige, it is used to produce garments that are very warm, among which one of the best known is the traditional Walk or Sarner jacket.
