THE REGIMENTAL TIE

  • The original regimental tie is not a simple striped tie as you commonly think, in fact it has a very precise history, it is born in England in the military environment and has lines with an inclination of 45 ° from right to left, depending on the arrangement, amplitude of the lines and their colors the different regiments.
The story tells that in 1919 the future Duke of Windsor wore the necktie of the regiment that had been part of the "Granadiers Guards" with red and blue stripes, was noticed by the media that decreed a real widespread fashion
It is worth pointing out, however, that the regimental tie is not just about the military world, but its use has also extended to the environment of strictly British colleges, hospitals, clubs and universities.
In England it is still considered offensive or in any case of bad taste to wear a tie of this type if you have not been part of the regiment it represents, for this reason the Americans have devised to cut this striped tie with the opposite orientation from right towards left thus avoiding to offend the English gentlemen by showing off quietly.
Therefore, remember that not all striped ties are Regimental, you can not generalize, there are striped or regimental ties, they are not the same thing, the first may be the result of the imagination of those who combine the colors, the original regimental can have only those characteristics.
